The album weaves its way across an array of landscapes introducing the listener to the characters that live within them. One such story Ben is the tale of a former investment banker whose fall from grace sees him living out his days on the city streets. Amidst a wash of trumpets and pianos this swinging ballad documents Bens mental and physical decline to the backdrop of the hauntingly familiar subways and back alleys of urban life. Mai suggests There are very few bands in this country that have songs of such honesty and depth. The first single Journey to Odelle was released August 2011 and entered the AirIT charts at number 10 joining songs from artists such as Kasey Chambers and Gurrumul Yunupingu as the most played tracks on community radio across Australia Formed late in 2007. New Settlement Road began with brothers Waz Clark and Gavin Butcher writing a few songs together recording an EP of acoustic ballads before setting about finding some like minded individuals to fill out their sound. Soon after Paul Ryan joined the band.It became apparent early on that the best way for us to go forward as a band was to avoid the idea of exclusive roles and just serve each song on its merits says Ryan I dont consider myself the drummer of the band we just try do what is necessary to make the songs work he added. With this in mind, Ryan called on long time friend, Dave Tyndall to further expand the sound. Tyndall joined the band with a minimum of fuss and the boys then set about developing their sound in a bid to record ten new songs.
