Stormcellar are certainly a breath of fresh air on the Australian blues scene. Recently touted in the music press as one of Sydneys new premier blues outfits, and a band to look out for, they have made considerable strides. After releasing their first album Whiskey Talkin only a year and half ago and doing over a 100 shows, they have carved their own niche in the music scene. We like to think we have our own brand of R&B thats Roots and Boogie and we take our audience on a trip through the genres of the blues via Tokyo to Mali and Mississippi to Hawaii. Our aim is give up a couple of classy yet powerful sets for people to dance and listen to.
Messrs Michael Barry harmonica and Paul Read (slide guitar) have gathered the stories from their travels around the world to bring you some original modern blues tunes with influences dating back to the late 60s and 70s. Flavours of Texas and Ireland, and sonic references to the likes of the Allman Brothers Canned Heat Little Feat as well as early bluesmen Little Walter and Howlin Wolf are proudly evident in their collection of original songs performed on stage. They can slam out a stinging whiskey-soaked Chicago boogie, then turn around caress you with a ballad that sounds like it has come from the Stones songbook.
The songs are further brought to life on stage with additional guitar magic from Michael Swamp-monster Rosenthal, along with the kickin rhythm section of Mark Doctor Time Graeber and new boy Jammin Jon Spacic not pictured on bass. The band are in the midst of recording their second album as well as a live to analogue-tape EP Space Junk but continue to gig relentlessly. If you’d like to experience the progression of the blues with all its traditional trimmings on board, this 5-piece bassist not pictured band is one to watch out for.
Born in Narrabri and raised in Moree in country New South Wales, Drew McAlister grew up listening to Bryan Adams, Noiseworks and Slim Dusty and started singing at age 7. One of four children, after finishing school at the age of 18, Drew decided to take his music ability seriously and left the country for the dazzling lights of Sydney. He immediately picked up session work for major brand television and radio jingles. During the next few of years, Drew continued to write his songs, performed in many different bands and appeared on The Midday Show and Hey Hey Its Saturday numerous times. Drew then toured Australia with the production of Jesus Christ Superstar before eventually landing a recording deal with EMI.
SOILED EARTH are a dynamic 3-piece original rock alternative band with songs that are blues based, rock driven and extremely hard to sit still to! They will get any venue’s audience jiving to their charismatic original grooves driven by high energy frontman singer/guitarist Scott Campbell with rock solid experienced rhythm section Lawrence Davis on bass and drummer/backup vocalist Morris De Grazia
THE HOWLING TONGUES are a three-piece rock canon, sent from outer space to sexify your eardrums! They like to rock and love to see you roll. All the way up and down the east coast, the \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'Tongues are leaving some serious sonic footprints in their wake.
The band have an original song/music video called “See you in hell” which has been getting a lot of hits on You Tube and the Rage program on ABC TV. This is a killer track from their 5-track EP “Z” that was recorded by legendary engineer/producer Al Wright.
