Drew McAlister
Born in Narrabri and raised in Moree in country New South Wales, Drew McAlister grew up listening to Bryan Adams, Noiseworks and Slim Dusty and started singing at age 7. One of four children, after finishing school at the age of 18, Drew decided to take his music ability seriously and left the country for the dazzling lights of Sydney. He immediately picked up session work for major brand television and radio jingles. During the next few of years, Drew continued to write his songs, performed in many different bands and appeared on The Midday Show and Hey Hey Its Saturday numerous times. Drew then toured Australia with the production of Jesus Christ Superstar before eventually landing a recording deal with EMI.
The word has spread fast about this young Sydney four-piece band, who first hit the stage in March of 2007 and quickly became a sought-after act by many of the top local artists, Their debut self-titled EP was released late 2007, with stand out Track “Anywhere But Here” receiving air play on JJJ and community radio networks. The EP has been a great building block and introduction to Ash Phoenix.
2008 has seen the band developing and evolving and they have been lucky enough to cut their teeth and develop their stage legs gigging all around Sydney and Melbourne’s major centers and regional areas playing alongside some of Australia’s finest acts including: The Living End, Grinspoon, Gyroscope, Dead Letter Circus, Birds of Tokyo, Mammal, Trial Kennedy and many more.
The Bridge formed in 1985 when singer, Van Samios, joined guitarist Jason Garwood, drummer, Julian Clark and bassist Mark Cark, for an impromptu jam while they were performing at The Convent Garden in Sydney.
For the next six years the band played around Sydney pubs, until disbanding in 1991.
In 2002 the band reformed as the ‘Stairway to Zeppelin’ show, performing not just Zep songs but also a variety of rock classics
The Cover Ups-Live Duo was first formed in 2004 with collaboration between David Taylor and Hayley summers. They met while both working on P&O cruises overseas and through their love of music came to together to create what is now the Cover ups. Their aim in the beginning was to only perform acoustic covers. Over time they realised that playing with backing music gave them not only a much bigger sound, but more freedom to perform a wider range of songs that would appeal to different audiences. Making their own backing tracks and using a blend of high quality midi sounds and live instruments gives the cover ups a sound that could lead you to believe they were a 4 piece band. They play a variety of cover songs ranging from top 40 music from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and today. With Hayley on vocals and Dave on Guitar, bass and occasionally bringing out a ukulele, the quality duo are sure to entertain.
Katie was born in Mona Vale Hospital and grew up in Hornsby Heights. She has always sung since she was little, putting on shows for her family with her sister and other family members. Katie grew up listening and singing to Whitney Houston and Barbara Streisand and always marvelled at their power and range. She sang in the school choir and local amateur musical theatre.
Hailing from the Central Coast of New South Wales, Something with Numbers formed when friends Jake Grigg, Lachlan Scott and Tim Crocker began playing together in high school. In late 2001, bassist Scott Chapman and drummer Dave McBeath were recruited to complete the band current line-up. The bands moniker came when the suggestion their name should involve something with numberS was taken extremely literally. Their formative sound was loosely emo punk. A six-track EP, Barnicles and Stripes, was recorded over eight months and released by Below Par Records in September 2002. The EP landed in the right places, most notably in the hands of a member of Good Charlotte, who had Something with Numbers open for their 2003 Australian tour. The support slots and CD sales kept on ticking over, culminating in the band playing the 2003 Livid Festival a year after their debut release.
