April 17th, 2010 - Hook Elation

Hook Elation are a Rock/Pop (and a little bit of Funk) four piece band from Sydney.
Founded in late 2008 by cousins Gemma (vocals) and Dom (guitars). The duo began writing material together and were performing acoustic shows at venues throughout Sydney. They decided to turn their acoustic sound into a more Rock/Pop feel, and in late 2009, almost a year later, Sam (bass) and Rob (drums) jumped on board and Hook Elation was born.
They Rocked Oxford Art Factory in February, winning over their young crowd by delivering an electrifying live performance filled with energy and sass.
With musical influences from the seventies and eighties and bringing a little something of their own, these four young kids from Sydney will have you moving and singing along in no time. Writing songs about wanting to break free, liberation, hurt, angst, love and life’s addictions, they’re all about kicking it old school with a modern twist.

April 17th, 2010 - The What

In early 2007, Roxanne, Joe, Fil and Moonburn all met on the same day in a George street cafe before all studying music together. However, it wasnt until a year later and several failed music projects that they came together again and The What was born, bringing together a wide set of influences including rock, pop, funk, blues and roots sounds. From humble beginnings winning third place in a Campbelltown RSL Band Comp (Sessions 08), to cooking up a storm at The Bridge Hotel and the Annandale, and recording a tight demo, The What quickly stood out on the local scene with their infectious melodies, driving grooves and edgy, electrical performance. They have their sights set on world domination, and to anyone who stops their hectic lives to have a listen, a soothing musical massage is given. To make a mark without using a question mark, The What are exactly that!

April 10th, 2010 - Dark Horse

From their humble beginnings as a local garage band to rocking audiences at all of Melbournes reputable live music venues, including shows with bands such as The Screaming Jets, Juke Kartel, You Am I and Kram of Spiderbait fame, fans often describe Dark Horse as a mixture between the most hardest of rock, infused with blues and the majestic tones of soul melodies

We’re a no fuss rock band. What you see is what you get.

Thats a deceptively simple statement made by Brett Burnell, guitarist with Dark Horse, and a viewpoint shared with the rest of the band. It seems like a pretty bland description of a band, until you look deeper into the musical beliefs, the style, sound and outlook of the four mates in Dark Horse.
