February 5th, 2012 - New Settlement Road

New Settlement Road are a four-piece band from country Victoria, Australia. Their music is a collection of folk-inspired tunes with a strong focus on storytelling. Influenced by the music of 60s folk writers like Neil Young, Bob Dylan and Paul Simon as well as great Australian songwriters like Paul Kelly and Tim Rogers their music is subtly dark with a simplicity that allows the songs narratives to take centre stage . Described by renowned music manager Larry Tyler as having the rare ability to capture the imagination of the listener in an honest and meaningful way the band have just completed a stint in the studio. Among the Gentlest of Birds the bands 10 track debut was recorded in five and a half days with ARIA nominated recording engineer Robin Mai John Butler Trio Augie March decided to record most of the music live to tape explains singer songwriter Waz Clark. This just seemed like the most logical way to capture the feeling of us playing together” he added.

February 19th, 2012 - Tommy Pickett

I m a singer and songwriter originally from New Zealand currently living and playing in Sydney. When I was twelve I claimed ownership of our familys motley old record player and the odd collection of records that lived with it. Along with Alvin and the chipmunks The ballad of Davy Crockett and Fleetwood mac Rumours Every family home had that album like every family home has a dishwasher now there was Elton John Goodbye yellow brick road. I wore it out Oh the homework I shirked I soon knew the words to the whole double album by heart from Sweet painted lady to I ve seen that movie too to The ballad of Danny Bailey. Such a world Heartbreak homelessness Saturday night ass shakin badness and seedy sex Really it could have been any album with an ounce of depth. What I fell into was a gigantic love of songs. The shape and size they can be the way a beautiful story can fit into that package the way it can raise bumps on my arms and the way if no one is home I could open my mouth screw up my face and wail along cos I knew all the words Being a bit slow to think of things it took me until I was twenty four to pick up a guitar and a pen and try making my own Wow I thought This way I can put in all the things I like like references to fruit for anatomical comparisons and rhymes that dont quite and leave out things I don t like like lame dead lyrics that sound like they went there just because they rhymed and writeThe perfect song. Now its eleven years later and I believe I m getting closer.

February 26th, 2012 - Stephanie Jansen

After completing a Philosophy degree late last year, and realising that such a qualification was, frankly useless in the world of employment Steph Jansen abandoned all attempts to attain a real job and decided to pursue a music career full time.At a mere 21 years of age Stephs songs are characterised by a maturity beyond her years and a unique take on country music which far surpasses the traditional limitations of the genre. Greatly influenced by the likes of Bonnie Raitt Shelby Lynne Linda Rondstadt and John Hiatt Steph draws from the best of the country folk rock soul and blues traditions creating something that is distinctly hers simultaneously old and new. Steph believes that her nostalgic acoustic driven tunes are the inevitable bi product of exposure to her parents 70s and 80s record collection with names like Stevie Nicks and John Fogerty being enjoyed on frequent rotation.Steph was selected to take part in the inaugural CMAA Academy of Music in 2010 and spent the recent Tamworth festival supporting some of Australias premier country artists.Currently in the pre production phase of her debut album, she is busy writing and road testing new material for release in the New Year. This Friday at the Heritage Hotel she will be joined by highly accomplished bass double bass player John Gwilliam and James Jimmy Rodwell on drums and percussion. Expect to be taken on a musical journey through the eras with a selection of sexy and psychedelic covers and the odd original tune thrown in!

February 29th, 2012 - bent blues

Since forming early in 2011 Bent Blues has built up an extensive repertoire of blues music, performing covers by a large range of bands as well as originals. The trio combines old school foot stomping blues with tone driven blues-rock with modern ballads to provide an experience of powerful and passionate music.Debuting as front-man is Jay Lawrence on guitar who following a 5 year apprenticeship with Blue Mountains greats Doctor and The Badman wanted to form a trio to focus in on the music that drives him. That drive was found when stumbling across his fathers Stevie Ray Vaughan records, after which there was no turning back. SRV led to a great range of older guys Albert King Muddy Waters and such and then to more modern guys such as Robben Ford and John Mayer. These influences have created a fast and tone driven guitarist who is always trying to give the audience the feeling that the blues gives him, and has found the band that pushes him to do just that.

The songs are energetic yet very easy listening and sure to please blending their affection of reggae and rock and with their love of real blues & roots.
