In amongst the madness and fervor that has been the last two years, Melbournian four-piece Skipping Girl Vinegar have become one of the most talked about bands in Australia today. Comprising of brother sister duo Mark and Sare Lang and their respective childhood
friends Chris Helm and Amanthi Lynch, their debut single One Chance was the Australian itunes ’single of the week’, added to high-rotation on Triple J and championed by major alternative and ABC radio nationwide. The accompanying animated clip for ‘One
Chance’ also received critical acclaim with Rage featuring it as their first ever ‘indie clip of the week’ and JTV featuring it as their “new clip for the week” before it then charted in their Top 20. They were highlighted in Triple J’s Oz Music month as a ‘next crop’ artist.
Following the success of One Chance and with the release of their debut album pending, Skipping Girl Vinegar were offered some serious six figure major label & indie offers to release the album in Australia. But with a groundswell of international interest in the group rivaling that at home, they made the decision to maintain their independent route and release via their own label Secret Fox & licence the album in Australia to Melbourne label Popboomerang and MGM distribution. Released in Australia Sep 13th 2008, SGV’s debut album “Sift The Noise” is testament to the band’s obsession with melody, pop-hook, and the search to stretch their song craft. A dark, warm, organic record that reflects the environments and journey of the band, it was received ecstatically by public and media alike.

I have been writing music since the age of 13. I was born in Braidwood NSW, but raised in Jimboomba. QLD. I played my first gig at the age of 16 and have not looked back. I mainly write about love, lose, moods and so on. I would describe my music as country Rock, country pop. I have recorded an album in 91 titled The House Next Door. I have since written a new album, which is currently being recorded. I hope to have it completed by September 2010. I owe a lot of my musical talent to my parents who always encouraged me to play. My father taught me the inner tricks to singing, and rehearsed me a lot in the art of diction.
As for pub & club gigs and private functions, I always aim to please my clients. I have a massive range of cover material that I can pull from. The covers that I play cover most genres and eras.Armed with only my acoustic guitar, and top of the range sound equipment, I have been told that my style of playing guitar gives my cover songs a different feel to the artist’s originals. Everything I play you can bet you can pretty much sing along to. My shows are a great mix of covers with the odd original chucked in.
I am looking forward to playing at the Fitzroy Hotel in Windsor, and playing songs that people only think have been forgotton.
In 2005 Children Collide released We Three, Brave And True, a six-track EP that didnt so
much announce the groups arrival as kick the door down, featuring the brilliant We Are
Amphibious, the little b-side that could - and did, turning, reinvigorated, into the a-side of
2006s equally impressive Glass Mountain Liars EP. Now its 2008 and the band is pleased to
present their debut long player, The Long Now.This is a record that crackles with smarts and buzzes along with the undeniable sense of a band that knows where its going, a band that sees your lazy references and questionable stylistic decisions and raises them - into another stratosphere - as Johnny (vocals/guitars),Heath (bass) and Ryan (drums) create a tumbling maelstrom of rock in excelsis. Its a record with its eye on the future and its feet in the present and its imagination crossing astral planes
throughout it all.Theres the single, Social Currency, a barnstorming disco-political frenzy that observes the perils of cool, like a wallflower sitting on the side of the dancefloor with an Uzi in her purse.Musically I felt like it channelled the nu-rave and electro-clash stuff that has been
surrounding us for the last couple of years so I had to take the piss with the lyrics, explains Johnny. So, it became about bandwagons and self-appreciation societies and people who make art to get blow jobs and keeping your finger on the pulse. Which sounds like a bit of a sook, but it’s not.Far from it, in fact - the song has more dynamism in its pealing opening riff than a whole clubload of cool kids could dream of.
To say that the 6 teenagers who make up Howl have had a busy 5 months would be a drastic understatement. After taking out the highly competitive competition for Triple J s Unearthed High the band have met a flurry of festival shows, tours, interviews and alike head on and have now finally emerged with their stunning self-titled debut EP which hits shelves on the 19th of February through I OH YOU SHOCK Records and features the lead single and Triple J favourites Blackout and I Hear Its Love as well as new single Anyone But Us which has just been added to rotation.Having just completed an onslaught of frantic appearances at festivals such as Stereosonic Field Day Queenscliff Music Festival etc and their first east coast tour with good friends and all round nice guys DZ the six friends showed no signs of stopping for a breather as they slapped the P-plates back on the tour van and head out for the ‘ANYONE BUT US’ tour to celebrate the release of the release of their debut EP and are now gearing up for national tours with both Yacht Club DJs and Har Mar Superstar.

I lie still, supine. Paralysed by the dark machine. From above it watches me emotionless, cold and blank.I stare into its nothingness Intoxicated.I would stay here forever if I could, motionless.Gazing into the dead eyes of the Mechanical Black.

Richard Perso, being an only child he always had to make up for his isolation by creating the same amount of mess as 3 kids. Therefore it was only a natural progression that led him to making as much noise as a 3-piece band. He doesn’t seem to have enough arms, legs or lungs to pull off such a physically demanding performance but that doesn’t stop him from playing 3 didgeridoos, driving a weapons cache of 4 overdriven acoustic guitars and somehow managing to replace the roll of a drummer with little more than his 2 feet.Having only picked up the guitar 6 years ago, it is fair to say that Richard Perso has achieved more in his short time than many musicians may ever dream of achieving. He played his first festival at the age of 15, won a string of competitions and awards at the age of 16, played at the Adelaide International Guitar Festival and The National Folk Festival by 17. Now at the tender age of 18 he has added Woodford Folk Festival and New York performances to his resume, a further 17 festivals during 2009 as well as recording his Debut album in New York City which is was released in March 2010.During recent performances, Richard has been voted by festival goers as one of the most popular acts, outranking many of the headline acts.

Jeff Lang, Lior and Carla Werner.
Brett’s self-titled debut album (immediate right),
produced by Jonathan Burnside (The Melvins,
Grinspoon, The Sleepy Jackson), was named album of
the year for 2003 by director John Carver of PBS Radio
(Melbourne). The release was followed by a live
recording of the track ‘Life’s What You Make It’, which
featured on the CD compilation Night Out at the
Basement Vol II, alongside artists such as John Butler,
Jimmy Barnes and The Badloves. The track also made
it to ABC National’s high rotation and footage from the
live version was broadcast on MusicMAXX (Foxtel).

A sure bet someone once said of The Radiators. Little did they know 21 years later The Radiators would still be dominating the stages and airwaves of today. With trademark lyrics and gimmicks these guys have a history that debuting acts could only dream of.
The Radiators have carved themselves a niche in the annuls of Australian Rock History, headlining, and sharing the stage with other great oz acts such as Rose Tattoo, AC/DC, and INXS.Consistently delivering high quality shows (approaching the 3000 mark), the Rads have played to an estimated two million punters throughout Australia. Also under their rock n roll belt is over 100 original songs, 2 platinum album sales, 2 gold, and a host of other huge record sales. The structure of The Radiators was formed from the remnants of rock bands “Big Swifty” (Fess and Brian) and “Twister” (Geoff). Stardom just an itch. How were they to know then that they were to forge a unique sound and influence for thousands throughout Australia. The rock and roll ride began way back in Sydney, September 1978, when they embarked on their first ever tour. It was a tour that formed the roots of Australia’s longest surviving original pub rock band, THE RADIATORS.
Geminine began in early 2008 with four musicians coming together and finding a sound, style and chemistry which was brutal melodic ambient and harmonious. This would later form into what is now know as Geminine a four piece band which makes an assault on the senses and emotions of listeners through various means of experimentation within a hard rock context. The music is diverse and each member pushes the other in composing playing and performing to try and achieve a sound which is satisfying to both them and the listener. The band is constantly growing and exploring new sounds and ideas, which they can tweak and mix in with the varied influences each member posses. Whilst the EP A Fire on the Ocean Floor is an example of the technical and textured layering Geminine use the live experience breaks into an energetic frenzy taking the music to that decibel which will leave your ears ringing with satisfaction. Geminine is outfit that is only going to get better with time perhaps like a fine wine? they are ready to deflower the ears of Sydney and abroad, with their unique sound of floating melody interupted by brutal riffage which form together to create a wall of noise that begins to re write the formula of rock GEMININE will definitely see you around at venues in and out of Sydney in the future.
MM9 first brought their brand of hard-edged electro-rock to the stages of their hometown
of Sydney, Australia in early 2003, and created a groundswell of support that has firmly
established them as one of Australias premier touring acts. Equally at home playing traditional rock venues, mainstream music festivals, dance clubs, or massive underground rave parties; MM9 is a band whose versatility is matched only by the sheer potency of their stage presence. After strong sales of their debut, Self-Titled EP in 2004 (distributed by Shock Records)and their 2006 follow-up Prosthetic Boulevard(distributed by Creative Vibes), late 2007 saw the band taken on board by New World Artists (Silverchair, The Living End, Sneaky Sound System) as part of their exclusive live representation roster. While maintaining a tireless schedule of touring throughout 2008, MM9 - now in partnership with Sydney-based
independent label Red Recordings - have been busy writing and recording new material for
their first full length album.Scheduled for release in 2009 its an ambitious project, one that further refines their pulsing, electro-rock sound and melds it with solid pop sensibilities. Constantly looking forward, constantly evolving, MM9 are a band to listen to, witness, and lose yourself in.
The idea for the formation of the band was first conceived at the 1995 East Coast Blues Festival (Byron Bay NSW), after a group of local musicians (including the then newly-arrived Ross Ward) were called in to form the nucleus of the backing band for the Bentley/Reed Blues Review.
Ward’s Xpress released the EP/CD Toe The Line in 97, and picked up that years Dolphin award for Best Blues. In 98, and working regularly between Brisbane and the Northern Rivers areas of NSW, the band released its first full-length album South-bound Freight.
By 2000 the band had been appearing regularly at many of the major festivals, released yet another CD to good reviews Wire-Fire and had started to appear more often in the Sydney/South Coast and ACT regions.
Wards Xpress has been a vehicle for Ross Ward’s tunes, but the band has also established a reputation for high-energy live shows, bought on by the high standard of musicianship from the regular line-up of players.
The bands line-up includes the following:
Drummer: Bruce Stephens ( John English,Gina Jeffries ).
Bassist: Andrew Couttie ( Kurtis, Lisa Hunt ).
Keys: Donny Hopkins ( Rob Grosser, Big Wheel ).
Guitar & Vocals: Ross Ward ( Blackfeather, Phil Emmanuel Band ).
The band is also augmented with the addition of Sydneys best available horn players.
Wards Xpress has also done the backing for short tours and or festival spots with Lucy DeSoto, Dave Tice, Phil Emmanuel, Wiley Reed, Doc Span, The Byron Blues All-Stars, Jim Kelly, Jack Thorncraft, Dennis Wilson, etc.
In 2003, the band contributed five tracks to Ross Ward’s solo CD Transit Lounge Bluesoz CD of the year, 2004, as they continued to appear at various gigs & festivals around Oz, and in between Ross’ extensive solo tours.
In 2006, Wards Xpress filmed their live show at the Broadbeach Blues Festival, and in 2007 released the DVD, One Day In May, including a doco section about the show and the expanded line-up which took place. The DVD garnered some great media reviews.
2010 has seen Ross Ward relocate back to home town Sydney after 15 years in Byron Bay, instantly reuniting with the Sydney-based line-up of the band, and Wards Xpress is currently recording their fouth studio album, due for release in October 2010, with a national tour and festival appearances booked for the summer of 2010-2011. Catch the Xpress when it hits your town, and enjoy the ride!!
